To do a case study, start by defining the subject and goal of your study and then getting ethical approval from the institution or department you're working under. You should be aware of any biases in your small sample, and make them clear in your report, but they do not invalidate your research. If studying people, research information in their past that may be relevant, possibly including medical history, family history, or history of an organization. A good background knowledge of the research topic and similar case studies could help guide your own research as well, especially if you are writing a critical interest case study.
